SLI Approach to Sustainability LeadershipThe Sustainability Leadership Institute approach to leadership is based on research, analysis, application and evaluation. It is grounded in studies of complexity science, epistemology (the study of how people come to know what they know) and social constructionism, which relate to complex human interaction and transformative change. At SLI, we have come to recognize that these processes underlie most initiatives, projects and actions intended to improve the status quo. Fundamental to our sustainability leadership approach is the belief that an optimal leader assumes responsibility for learning how to learn to be effective in each new situation s/he encounters. We help sustainability leaders develop the capacity to meta-learn while doing their jobs, thus enabling them to better navigate the complex, uncertain, unpredictable situations they encounter. Further, operating within this orientation enables leaders, through their everyday practice, to develop self-learning capacity among others. |
